During this two-hour online retreat, you will have the opportunity to learn two important styles of prayer--the Prayer of Consideration and Imaginative Prayer--and take virtual tours of two important basilicas in Assisi, Italy.

Here is the structure of the retreat--

  • After the introductory video, you'll enjoy a succinct lesson on the Prayer of Consideration, a revered style of prayer for Saint Ignatius of Loyola. Then, you'll take a virtual tour of the Basilica of St. Francis, with an emphasis on the beautiful frescos of Giotto. You will then be given a guide for enjoying about 15-20 minutes of personal prayer. Afterwards, if you're interested in testing how well you paid attention to the tour, you can take a fun quiz.
  • Next, you'll enjoy a teaching on Ignatius' favorite style of prayer--Imaginative Prayer. Then, you will take a virtual tour of the Basilica of St. Clare, home of the famous San Damiano crucifix. Afterwards, you will have another period of personal prayer, with an optional fun quiz at the end.

Tom Elliott

Tom Elliott is a certified spiritual director and the owner of Deepwardly, LLC. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Saint Meinrad College and a Masters of Divinity from Notre Dame in New Orleans. Tom completed a three-year training program in spiritual direction from the Institute of Priestly Formation at Creighton University. He also received supervision training in spiritual direction from the Sophia Spirituality Center. He is a member of Spiritual Directors International and has been offering spiritual direction and retreats for twenty-five years. In addition to directing and supervising about seventy men and women each month, Tom owns the Deepwardly School of Spiritual Direction, which trains men and women of all faiths in the ministry of spiritual direction. He and his wife, Carmel, also own Cedar Ridge, a retreat center on top of a ridge in central Arkansas. Tom is also the author of the books, "The Intimacy You Desire" and "Becoming Wholehearted".

He gave the participants a poster of the Cross of San Damiano, which I have since had framed and use for meditation and contemplation from time to time. Tom has so many gifts from God. During this retreat, it is his voice, his intelligence, and his gift of detail. I would love to visit these places personally but in the meantime, this was probably best, next to the real thing. Knowing me, it was actually probably better because I could hear every detail without distraction. If there was a distraction, you just hit the pause button as many times as you need and rewind. If I was there, I know there would be way too many distractions, thus making it hard to listen, concentrate, pray, and most importantly, hear from God. I was amazed how many times my actual prayer intention offered up for this retreat was addressed. I am also amazed how the Holy Spirit can work even through a laptop!!!!! Thank you, Tom! As I have always said since I met you, thank you for being an instrument of God. I pray for His protection and blessings to be upon you, always. In Jesus's name, Amen.
